This is so frustrating! I teach them. It looks like they don’t get it. Or maybe they just don’t care? I give up.
That’s what I used to think. I now have a different take. It all changed when I decided to take the pressure off of teaching editing and revision. When I stopped tying the instruction exclusively to academic essay writing.
Academic writing is hard, tiresome, and layered in complexity. If a student pushed through all the writing instruction and they completed a paper, the last thing they want to here is, “but wait, there’s more!” To them it looks like they got bamboozled. “Wait, I’m done. But you’re saying I’m not done? When will this end!?”
I want to hear from you: What is your #1 single biggest challenge in teaching your students how to revise their writing?
Don’t hold back! Be specific, detailed, and passionate. It’s okay. Let it all out.
